Praxis Final Thesis

Abstract

The goal for this project is to examine the connection between students’ pleasure reading and their literacy development. To conduct this research, my research partner and I collected data from Worcester Public School teachers in the form of a survey (21 participants) and an optional follow-up interview (3 participants). In conjunction with this research, my research partner and I organized the installation of a Book Nook in Columbus Park Elementary School to help the students of the school gain access to a diverse set of multicultural books for pleasure reading. These efforts combined highlight the connection between students developing stronger literacy skills when given books that actually spark their interests.
